Different types of programmes

Talk/Music

Heart's UK (London's Heart)

London's Heart is a radio station that produces content that is talk/music. They broadcast their talks everyday with presenters entertaining people all around the UK and letting them know what's happening around the world. 

Some conventions that "London's Heart" has are:

  • Time structuring - There is a clear overall structure of the show "London's Heart". The structure is giving some information and then playing some music. 
  • Narrative - The narrative is always different everyday as the world is always changing. The narrative is done by the producers of the radio station and is shown through the presenters. 
  • Point of view - In the show "Breakfast with Greg James", it tries to get different points of views. For example, allowing callers to respond to certain questions that is being asked from the presenter. 

Sport

Aston Villa Vs Manchester United (BBC Radio 4) 

On BBC Radio 4, there are different sporting programmes that are accessible on this radio station. In this instance, the programme here is Aston Villa vs Manchester United. 

Some conventions that Aston villa vs Manchester United has are:

  • Time structuring - When looking at the duration of the programme, we can see that it is always the same. As all football programmes like this one are 3 hours long. This is the structure of this particular programme on BBC Radio 4. 
  • Point of view - The point of view that is presenters describing what is happening to the audience. 
  • Narrative - The narrative in this programme is not scripted. Instead it is always different as football matches are unpredictable. 

Current events

Today (BBC Radio 4) 

Today is a programme that is available on BBC Radio 4. This programme informs the audience what is happening all around the world. This can include, the news, sporting events and much more.  

Some conventions that Today has are:

  • Time structuring - The programme "Today" has a time structure and gives out particular information at different points of the show. 
  • Point of view - The point of view is the presenters talking to the audience and informing/educating them what is happening around the world. 
  • Narrative - Due to the producers having access to this information early, the narrative is scripted. 

Lifestyle

Martin Lewis: How to simplify student loan info (BBC Radio 5, live in short) 

This programme is about Martin Lewis and how he helps people all around the world solving problems they may have. For instance, this programme is about how to help students understand student loans. 

Some conventions that How to simplify student loan info has are:

  • Time structuring - The structure of the programme is quite simple as this particular show is 2 minutes long. The structure of the show is a short intro, discussing how to simplify student loans and an outro. 
  • Point of view - The point of view in this case is done by Martin Lewis addressing the audience. 
  • Narrative - The narrative is fairly straight forward as this programme is short and is easy to understand. 

Comparing shows

When looking at The Archers Omnibus and Aston Villa vs Manchester United, we can see that the are very different but share some similarities. 

Some differences are:
  • They have different personnel - When looking at The Archers Omnibus, they have a cast. This is because The Archers Omnibus is a TV drama programme. This is used to entertain audiences. However, when looking at Aston Villa Vs Manchester United, we can see that there is no cast as it is a football match between 2 rival teams. 
  • Tone - When looking at the tone of The Archers Omnibus, we can see that the tone is always mixed. This is because the programme is a drama containing different scenes which leads to the tone constantly changing. However when looking at Aston Vila and Manchester United, we can see that the tone is upbeat and suspenseful. 
Some similarities are:
  • Personnel - When looking at both of the programmes, we can see that there are presenters in both. This is different type of presenters however, the presenters are introducing the programmes and informing the audience what is being shown next.
